DW: journey's end

Grandma, this year I'd like some fanfic for Christmas!

I feel like I'm double posting, so many apologies to anyone on my flist. ;)

*****

WHO: Support Stacie, and a host of amazing fanfic writers from mulitiple fandoms.

WHAT: The Stocking Stuffer Author Auction

WHERE: Kindly hosted by Majik's World of Fanfic

WHY: Earning money for a good cause.

For most of us, the day is yet to come when we can make that statement over Thanksgiving dinner! So until then, The Stocking Stuffer Author Auction is here to help with your holiday shopping! As a follow up to our phenomenally successful September Author Auction, the Stocking Stuffer Author Auction will take place over Thanksgiving weekend - for 3-days only - to help simplify holiday shopping, all the while raising money for a great cause.

Many of us struggle to come up with gift ideas for our internet friends. Winning a friend’s favorite author is a perfect way to give a gift you know they’ll love; a gift which their “Real Life” friends and family would never think of! And because the writing challenges must all have a holiday theme, covering any one of the holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, we hope that this will be an additional way for readers and authors alike to celebrate the holiday season.

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, the Author Auction serves as a writing challenge for fandom authors. The authors offer themselves up for the auction block, in this case for a holiday-themed story, approximately 2,500 words long. Their readers have the fun of bidding for (and bickering over!) them, and the winning bidder gets to issue the writing challenge of their choice to the author the won.

All bids will be taken at Majik’s World of Fan Fic. You must be registered to bid. Complete registration instructions can be found here.

The timing for the Stocking Stuffer Author Auction is as follows:

Saturday, November 29th, 12:01am – Auction opens (today)
Monday, December 1st, 9:00pm – Auction ends

Within 21 days of payment receipt, the author you have won will delivery the 2,500 word one-part story to you or your friend. The recipient can choose whether to have the story posted publicly or not.

All payments must be received via paypal at supportstacie@gmail.com. Any auction not paid for will default to the next highest bidder.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please let us know (supportstacie@gmail.com)! We’re excited about what a success the last auction was and what a direct impact that has made on Stacie’s life. With such a successful event under our belts, we expect this coming auction to be an joy for all concerned. But most important of all, please take a moment to start spreading the news about this fantastic holiday event!

A list of all of authors participating can be found HERE.

Hope to see you guys there, and many apologizes if this doesn't belong here.

Support Stacie Author Auction!

Right now, Support Stacie is holding a multi-fandom Author Auction, where you actually get to bid on some of your favorite authors and have them write a fic tailor-made for you!  Prices start all over, depending on how long the fic is that you want, and whether or not it's been bid on already!

All the details you'd want are here, and the bidding forums, which are already open, are here!

And if you haven't guessed this by now, thephoneix  and I are both participating!  I'm offering a 5,000 word Roswell fic and a 2,500 word Harry Potter fic, and Cam is offering a 5,000 word Roswell fic.

This is going to be an awesome event, and Cam and I entirely are jazzed about it.  So do your worst (or best!) and help out truelovepooh  along the way.  Neither Cam or I are open to slash, and I'm saying no to NC-17, too, but beyond that, anything goes.  And we don't even touch the amazing list of authors from all kinds of different fandoms that will be participating in this.  If we don't tickle your fancy, someone will!

By the by, Gazers—stargazerdavid , AKA the great StargazerUK is up for bid with a 5,000 word Roswell fic, too!  And I KNOW you want to bid on HIM. ;)

Flirty Drabble Challenge

Happy February! *blows noise maker* I know it's been awhile since we've last updated the newsletter. I know, I know we're a horrible lot for a staff. LOL Hopefully we'll get back to some kind of routine for the newsletter. Anyway in hopes of this, we've decided to change the layout and the banner. Many thanks to Mary as usual for the awesome artwork, and we've also put our heads together for new ideas.

One of the ideas being this month instead of a newsletter with updates of all the fics, we've decided to post our top ten favorite Gazer fics. Not only that but we've come up with a small challenge to keep those muses moving and plotting away.

Welcome to our Flirty Drabble Challenge! As Valentine's Day is this week, we thought to do something along that theme. Below you'll find a list of word prompts to help inspire you to write a drabble. There's only two rules for it:

1) You must use one of the word prompts in your drabble.

2) Drabble length must be somewhere between 100-1000 words.

There's no deadline, but um yeah let's not wait two years to get it done shall we? *winks* Just have fun with it and write, write.

Lisa's Top Ten Gazer Fics

For February, thephoneix and I have decided to each make a top ten list of our all-time favorite Alex and Isabel storylines.  I'm sure you've heard all of mine before, as I'm (as always) a bit behind on the times so far as fics go.  These are all old favorites of mine, some older than others, and the ones I always find myself turning to recommend, but then I guess that's what this list is for, isn't it?  OT—ten points to anyone who knows why I used this icon.

ETA:  Feel free to post your top ten list here as well!  (thanks, truelovepooh)

This list isn't perfect, by any means.  Feel free to rec me, if there's something obvious I'm missing. ;)

Also, keep an eye out!  Valentine's Day drabble challenge to come!

Addendum!

To challenge #1.

Because we made up the song-thread challenge ages ago, thephoneix (understandably) forgot to mention my one demand... that you pick a song someone other than yourself posted to the A/I song thread.  Be adventurous. ;-)

Holiday Challenge...

I know, I know it's been awhile since a newsletter and my deepest apologizes. I hope to have it up later tonight or tomorrow night. Probably tomorrow night since I'm nodding off as we speak and alas I face another day of getting up early for work. Anyway I thought now would be a great time for another Stargazer challenge since NaNo is about to end so that frees a lot of people up. ;)

However this time the challenge is a bit different. I thought about doing another beginning and ending challenge, but I thought now would be a good time to try something different. Still if you look close enough you'll find the sentences mixed up in this new challenge.

This time we're offering two challenges...one musical and the other visual. This holiday challenge is about inspiration. What inspires your muse to run off with an idea where you find yourself holding on for a bumpy ride?

Do you listen to music to set that mood as you write for inspiration? Does finding yourself staring at nothing more than a flower inspire you to write? If you've answer yes to at least one of the questions, then this is the challenge for you. :)

CHALLENGE ONE: THE WAY SHE LOVES ME

There's so many songs that are on point as they say when describing Alex and Isabel. A lof of you have even posted the songs that remind you of Alex and Isabel in the Gazer forum at Roswell Fanatics. There's so many great songs there that we thought why not make a challenge where you guys have to pick your favorite song from that thread and write a story that is either inspired by the actual song, or you incorporate the song's lyrics somewhere in your story.

Sounds like fun right? Just think of all the beautiful songs that you can use? You can find the song thread HERE.

CHALLENGE TWO: MY PEN HASN'T RUNNETH OUT...

Have you ever seen that movie "Love Actually"? There's this scene where this guy (can't think of his name right now) holds up several signs that say what he can't bring himself to say. I adore that scene! Sometimes we can't find the words that we need to express what we're saying, and sometimes we find other ways to do it.

This challenge is all about the visual inspiration, and what you'll find below are three prompt tables that contain icons that hopefully will inspire you to write. You can choose any prompt table, but you must include at least one description of one of the pictures. What I mean to say is that at least one of the events in the prompt table must be describe in your story. You can use anything in either prompt table, so you don't have to limit yourself to one table.

By the way I got the idea for the prompt table from the November prompt at time_and_chips, so credit to them for inspiring me although I've totally tweaked the idea to death. lol

ETA: All participants will receive a niffy wallpaper.

RULES:

1. All challenges are due no later than January 1, 2008. That's right you have a whole month to write, so don't freak out.

2. Rating is up to you, so carpe diem my friend.

3. Minimum word count for story is at least 100 words. Ah come on you know you want to write another War and Peace. lol

4. You can co-write with someone else. Hey take this as a sign to ask a buddy to write with you. The more the merrier right?

5. Have fun and enjoy yourself. :)

Update, icons, etc...

Oh geez, I'm super late again with updating this newsletter. :( My sincere apologies, but the September issue will be out later this week hopefully Saturday. Anyway many thanks to StarGazing101 for her awesome entry to our Summer Writing challenge. If you haven't checked it out yet, then stop reading my ramble and go read it posthaste. You can find the link to the story in the previous post underneath this one. Seriously go read. :) As for the banner and siggie, our resident artist Mary has pretty much finished them, she just has to add the final touches (i.e. the lines) and I'll be putting them up for your pleasure later this week. The icons on the other hand were left in my caring, and let's face it I am in no way another Mary when it comes to the art. lol Still it's okay and I'm happy with the results I came up with. The icons are below, so feel free to grab what you want. Anyway have a great week, and be on the lookout for another update sometime this weekend. Oh! One more thing, we're going have a holiday writing challenge and a song based challenge that Lisa came up with that's totally great. More details on that later in October.
